Edison Chouest Offshore and Ørsted
Christened in 2024, the ECO EDISON marks the very first Service Operations Vessel (SOV) ever constructed in the United States. Through Ørsted’s leadership and Edison Chouest Offshore’s (ECO) shipbuilding expertise, completion of this SOV was a milestone moment for America’s growing supply chain that will help pave the way for future investments in the domestic offshore wind industry. At its core, the ECO EDISON represents a holistic achievement in U.S. supply chain development, utilizing American-made components, shipyards, and labor.
Shipbuilding began in March 2022 at ECO’s shipyard in Louisiana and concluded in 2024. Construction of the vessel created hundreds of new jobs for American workers in states across the country. A total of 600 workers were involved in the construction of the vessel. Taken together, nearly 1 million workhours were required to build the ECO EDISON in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida. However, the project’s reach went far beyond these four Gulf region states. All told, 34 states contributed components that were essential to successful completion of the project – including steel from Pennsylvania.
