The Maryland Offshore Wind Experience Hub
The Offshore Wind Experience Hub is an experiential center based in Maryland, with initial seed funding through the Maryland Energy Administration. The Hub will create a hands-on experience for students, residents, and visitors to learn more about the technology and benefits of offshore wind renewable energy.
Currently for the first phase of this project, Oceantic Network leases space at the Junior Achievement Center on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The Center hosts local schools for field trips and educational programming. Students who visit the Network’s portion of the Center explore careers in offshore wind energy.
“The Offshore Wind Experience Hub allows us to showcase the value of the growing offshore wind industry to students, families, and communities, from the jobs available to support families to the clean energy it provides to power their homes and businesses.” – Liz Burdock, CEO of Oceantic Network
Over the next several years, the Network aims to expand its offering at the Junior Achievement Center by developing a permanent Offshore Wind Experience Hub. As the Network develops ideas and concept drawings, it will focus on creating a productive space where visitors can interact with and understand the development of the offshore wind industry in Maryland, the United States, and around the globe.
The Offshore Wind Experience Hub will be in or near Ocean City, Maryland, and will offer visitors of all ages, educational levels, and abilities the chance to explore this clean energy technology and the growing industry through various hands-on programming.
Construction of the Offshore Wind Experience Hub will begin in tandem with two future operational offshore wind projects in Maryland (Skipjack and Maryland Offshore Wind) and serve as an important resource for Maryland residents to engage with and understand the benefits offshore wind offers.
“Here in Maryland, we can have both a growing economy and lead the way in clean energy. Maryland is rich in natural assets, institutional strength, numerous offshore wind energy partnerships and a thriving workforce–and I believe if we work together, our state will lead the country in offshore wind energy production.” – Maryland Governor Wes Moore
