BALTIMORE — Oceantic Network announced applications for its Rising Star Student Scholarship are now open for submissions. The scholarship is awarded annually to graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated impeccable academic achievement and a keen interest in pursuing a career in offshore wind or other ocean renewable industries.
As the offshore wind and ocean renewable industries advance to full utility-scale deployment, they need a constant supply of new talent across industry sectors and skillsets. The goal of the Rising Star scholarship is to increase accessibility to ocean renewable industries for collegebound students in order to foster future trailblazers and ensure the growth of the industry.
“Oceantic Network is committed to growing the offshore wind industry – and that includes investing in the next wave of workers spanning the supply chain,” said Liz Burdock, founder and CEO of Oceantic Network. “To succeed in the decade ahead, the industry must foster the varied skillsets needed to sustain and grow offshore and other ocean renewables.”
Each scholarship awarded will be $5000, funded through proceeds of the Network’s annual Ventus Gala as well as through donations from industry supporters. Applicants must be high school students currently in their senior year intending to enroll full-time in a two- or four-year college or university beginning the following academic year. The selection process involves academic industry leaders and Network Board members who will evaluate applicants based on their interest in pursuing a career in offshore wind and other ocean renewables, academic achievement, and financial need.
Scholarship applications are being accepted now through April 29. Scholarship winners will be announced in May. Companies interested in donating to the scholarship fund can find more information online.
