New target positions New Jersey at the head of the pack in capitalizing on the potential of offshore wind
BALTIMORE — Oceantic Network for Offshore Wind, the leading nonprofit working to accelerate offshore wind deployment and build a dedicated supply chain, commends Governor Phil Murphy’s announcement today at Climate Week NYC that New Jersey will increase its offshore wind deployment goals from 7.5 gigawatts (GW) by 2035 to 11 GW by 2040 – a bold commitment that will create thousands of new jobs and power millions of businesses and homes.
The following statement can be attributed to John Begala, Vice President of Federal and State Policy of Oceantic Network for Offshore Wind:
“With Governor Murphy’s announcement that New Jersey will again raise its offshore wind goal, increasing its target from 7.5 gigawatts (GW) by 2035 to 11 GW by 2040, the state has solidified itself as a national leader in driving forward this fast-growing industry. This commitment demonstrates how critical offshore wind is to accelerating our renewable energy transition, and the powerful tailwinds it can provide to our supply chain and our economy. Coupled with New Jersey’s newly released Offshore Wind Jobs Analysis, this announcement shows the scale of the vast and positive impacts that offshore wind can have for American communities and workers. Governor Murphy’s bold leadership harnessing the economic and environmental potential offshore wind brings to New Jersey sets a high bar that governors across the country should meet. Oceantic Network for Offshore Wind and our members proudly stand ready to support New Jersey in achieving its increasingly ambitious offshore wind goals.”
