The Future of Offshore Transmission: Insights from the Northeast States Collaborative and POINTS Consortium

January 13 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join industry experts for an exclusive preview of the critical transmission topics shaping the future of large-scale offshore energy and the U.S. grid.

This webinar will present recent findings and recommendations on pathways for standardizing offshore transmission—critical steps toward building a harmonized and interoperable offshore grid. These insights are the result of more than a year of collaborative discussions with state leaders and key stakeholders to identify technical, economic, and regulatory challenges and solutions as offshore energy generation scales regionally. The immediate and near-term recommendations will help inform states on how to structure their upcoming offshore energy solicitations, and plan for a more interconnected grid along the U.S. Atlantic Coast.

The presenters represent two leading initiatives driving this work: the Northeast States Collaborative on Interregional Transmission and the POINTS Consortium (Planning Offshore Interregional Network Standardization). Formed in 2023, the Collaborative brings together ten states to expand interregional transmission ties along the Eastern Seaboard. In 2025, the Collaborative and members of DNV’s HVDC Standards Joint Industry Project, launched the POINTS Consortium with support from the U.S.

Department of Energy. Collectively, these groups are developing standardized planning practices and technical specifications for offshore transmission infrastructure and helping to ensure compatibility across jurisdictions and developers.

The presenters––three members of the NE States Collaborative and the POINTS Consortium––will set the stage for four in-depth Grid & Transmission sessions they will also lead at the 2026 IPF – Energy at Sea Conference, February 9-12 in New York City. Through this webinar, attendees will gain the context and insights needed to optimize their experience at IPF and engage in informed discussions about the future of offshore transmission.
