BALTIMORE – The newly formed Yes to Wind campaign today announced the successful conclusion of its first national Week of Action, held November 15–23, which united communities across the country in support of offshore wind.
Organized by Climate Action RI (CARI) in partnership with Oceanic Network and dozens of regional and national allies, the Week of Action featured rallies, roundtables, webinars, community events, supply-chain business spotlights, and educational programs all focused on the economic and environmental benefits of offshore wind, including its benefits for energy affordability and reliability. From Rhode Island to Louisiana, advocates, labor unions, business leaders, and state and local officials joined forces under the Yes to Wind banner to highlight how offshore wind is creating good union jobs, strengthening local economies, and delivering reliable, American-made energy.
A Week of Coast-to-Coast Momentum
Between November 15 and 23, partners hosted more than a dozen events across the country, including:
- New London, CT – Nov. 17: A press conference at City Pier featuring state leaders, Attorney General William Tong, and supply-chain businesses highlighting Connecticut’s offshore wind jobs and economic opportunity.
- Providence, RI – Nov. 18: A family-friendly event hosted by Roots2Empower showcased how offshore wind supports community development and local workforce pathways.
- Hockessin, DE – Nov. 19: A community film screening for the National Wildlife Federation’s “Coast to Coast: The Need for Responsible Offshore Wind Energy” showcases how responsible offshore wind development protects wildlife and supports local communities.
- New York, NY – Nov. 20: A livestreamed economic roundtable hosted by WindWorks NY spotlighted New York supply chain companies fueling offshore wind growth.
- Virtual: Instagram Live – Nov. 20: Climate Action Rhode Island and New England for Offshore Wind hosted Powering Local Economies and Homes with Wind, a live conversation on the important role offshore wind plays for New England’s energy reliability and affordability.
Additional events were held by partners in Washington, D.C., Delaware, North Carolina, Florida, and Louisiana, including research exploration, a wind farm tour, happy hours, and community discussions. In Maryland, lawmakers and advocates came together for a Maryland Day of Action, which marked the first in a nationwide series of “Yes to Wind” events taking place nationally.
“Investing in offshore wind is key to unlocking good-paying jobs, lowering energy costs, and guaranteeing a cleaner future for Maryland. As the Trump Administration continues to roll back the clock on our wind energy progress to help his Big Oil financiers and friends, I’ll keep fighting to realize Maryland’s wind energy potential and ensure we stay on course toward a stronger, more sustainable, more affordable future for our state.” – Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD)
“Proud to stand with Sierra Club of Connecticut during their ‘Yes to Wind’ Week of Action to highlight just how critical offshore wind is for local jobs, for clean, American-made affordable energy, and for cleaner, healthier air. Revolution Wind was fully approved and on the finish line when Trump issued his baseless and lawless stop work order. We sued, and because of that Revolution Wind is back on track to deliver clean energy to 350,000 homes, saving Connecticut and Rhode Island ratepayers hundreds of millions of dollars over the next 20 years. Thank you to the Sierra Club of Connecticut for your tireless work advancing wind energy. It’s an honor to stand with you in this fight every single day.” – Connecticut Attorney General William Tong
“Rhode Island has a long, proud history as the birthplace of offshore wind in this country, and our residents understand the importance of building an energy system that is reliable, affordable, and resilient in the face of climate change. This week, Rhode Islanders showed up to support offshore wind, because it means cleaner air, high-quality jobs, and real economic opportunity in our communities. For our part, my Office will continue the fight against this federal administration to protect offshore wind, and I have no doubt that we will continue to be successful in doing so. Rhode Island’s workers, ratepayers, and environment depend on it.” – Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha
“New York State is already seeing real economic momentum from the offshore wind industry. It is driving new contracting opportunities for local businesses, revitalizing port infrastructure that has long needed renewed activity, and creating long-term, high-quality jobs for New Yorkers through strong partnerships with labor. Our businesses, our workers, and our community leaders understand that offshore wind is spurring new business for local manufacturers, expanding our skilled workforce, and strengthening the economy from the ground up. We’re proud to be building this industry in New York, and we’re only just getting started.” – Alicia Gené Artessa, Director of New York Offshore Wind Alliance
“This Week of Action demonstrates the breadth and depth of support for offshore wind across the country. Communities, workers, and businesses all recognize that offshore wind is a generational opportunity that stabilizes energy costs, strengthens our grid, and builds a domestic supply chain capable of supporting tens of thousands of American jobs. Oceantic Network is proud to help drive that progress by connecting companies, accelerating knowledge-sharing, and ensuring this industry continues to grow responsibly and competitively. The momentum we saw over the last week – from coast to coast, north to south, east to west – is exactly what it will take to deliver the energy future Americans want and deserve,” – Stephanie Francoeur, SVP of Communications & External Affairs, Oceantic Network
“Ironworkers Local 7 stands ready to supply the work needed for building, installing and maintaining future offshore wind projects in the Gulf of Maine. As energy prices continue to rise, more than ever it is important to invest in sources of renewable, homegrown energy, and the union jobs that will be critical in the future of our energy infrastructure.” — Grant Provost, Business Agent for Ironworkers Local 7 and Vice President of the Maine AFL-CIO
“A job in the offshore wind industry in Maine would mean I could see my kids grow up, and my kids could have the option of going into an industry that keeps them employed in Maine while also helping to do something good for the environment,” said Chad Ward, a resident of Thorndike, Maine, and an Ironworkers Local 7 member who commutes to work on offshore wind turbines in coastal Virginia due to the lack of work for him closer to home.
“Offshore wind will provide job opportunities for the members of IBEW Local 24. We will put our skills to work in the supply chain, building manufacturing facilities, onshore helping to build maintenance and marshalling infrastructure, and offshore performing the electrical work on the turbines, cabling, and maritime substations.”— Michael McHale, Business Manager, IBEW Local 24
“Offshore wind is not just about reducing emissions and improving grid reliability; it’s about creating good-paying jobs and opportunities for Connecticut families. By supporting offshore wind, we can reduce pollution that disproportionately impacts frontline communities, while ensuring these communities can benefit directly from the clean energy economy through jobs, workforce development, and supply chain opportunities.” –Allison Pilcher, Policy Director at the Connecticut Roundtable on Climate and Jobs
