For decades, oil and gas companies have harnessed energy off America’s coastlines. That deep knowledge and experience––guided largely by the Gulf region––springboarded a domestic offshore wind supply chain ready to deliver vessels, components, steel, and a skilled workforce to construct the commercial-scale projects along the East Coast. In recent years, emerging marine renewable energy sectors, including aquatic solar photovoltaic (PV), wave, tidal, and others are piloting innovative technologies that will deliver homegrown energy that American homes and businesses require as demand rises.
Now, more than ever, all forms of energy are needed to meet ever-increasing energy demand. With several projects delivering power to the grid today, and five more under simultaneous construction, offshore wind will contribute nearly 6 GW of energy, enough to power more than 1.4 million homes, before the next decade.
