BALTIMORE – The Department of the Interior released a directive following the signing of Executive Order 14315 (Ending Market Distorting Subsidies for Unreliable, Foreign-Controlled Energy Sources) today, which requires “all decisions, actions, consultations, and other undertakings — including but not limited to the following — related to wind and solar energy facilities” to undergo elevated review by the Office of the Secretary. The directive targets wind and solar projects, placing them under lengthy process reviews and heightened scrutiny.
In response, Oceantic Network has released the following statement from Stephanie Francoeur, SVP Communications & External Affairs:
“Offshore wind is a critical and strategic asset for America’s energy future. This new directive from the Department of Interior needlessly introduces energy uncertainty at a time when every American home needs access to affordable electricity more than ever. Adding burdensome layers of bureaucratic red tape to wind and solar development at the same time the administration is expediting approvals for fossil fuels does not reflect an “all-of-the-above” approach to American energy. The effects will result in higher energy costs, increased blackouts, job loss, and billions of dollars in stranded investments. Crippling these growing energy industries makes no economic or energy sense, and the negative impacts of this directive will ripple across American businesses, families, and communities for decades to come.”
