Baltimore – The Oceantic Network, the leading non-profit advocate for U.S. offshore wind at the state, federal and global levels, is hosting a national Offshore Wind Job Fair on June 22. Following a recent series of federal and state announcements committing to and opening up regions for offshore wind, industry growth to meet these commitments will require qualified talent. The Job Fair, free to attendees, will take place virtually and feature top companies, including Avangrid, Eversource, Fugro, Ørsted and other industry leaders.
To achieve the Administration’s goal for a clean power grid, installing 30 GW of offshore wind is only the start to an expansive U.S.-based offshore wind industry. Looking into the future, the U.S. market is likely much larger than what is currently being projected and will require a comprehensive workforce. The entire U.S. supply chain needs to be built out, from component manufacturers, transportation logistics, installation, and maintenance. That means an abundance of opportunities for businesses and individuals interested in entering the offshore wind industry to capture part of the estimated $100 billion initial capital expenditure market, which does not include decades of needed operations and maintenance work.
It is an unprecedented year for offshore wind – from Vineyard Wind’s approval, California coasts opening, and more states adopting offshore wind into their clean energy portfolios. All of these milestones will boost the renewable energy sector and drive job creation,” said Liz Burdock, president & CEO of Oceantic Network. “As the industry grows, the Network remains committed to building a robust local supply chain, including growing a skilled, diverse workforce.”
Tomorrow’s Job Fair will be the third hosted by the Network, which on average attracts over 300 job seekers who can met with representatives from dozens of offshore wind companies. The job fair is designed for individuals considering their next career move or looking for a start in offshore wind, providing the opportunity to apply for posted jobs and to speak to company recruiters about current job openings and upcoming jobs (in the next 6-12 months). Registration is free to job seekers, who will have the chance to speak with industry representatives from top companies about positions range from internships, port studies project managers, geophysicists, account managers, naval architects, mechanical engineers and more.
“Companies large and small across the supply chain recognize that the industry is growing at a rapid pace and they need qualified individuals, either currently in the industry of with transferable skills, as well as new talent interested in the offshore wind industry in order to meet demand,” added Burdock. “The Job Fair is designed to connect companies to talented individuals, creating a skilled workforce that will not only grow the U.S. industry but can export their expertise abroad.”
OSW Job Fair will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EDT on June 22. If you are a company interested in participating in the Job Fair, sign-up online for a booth. Recruiters will be able to meet with potential employees face-to-face via private chat rooms, post open positions, download job seeker resumes for positions open now or within the next 12 months, and upload company information for attendees to learn more about company goals.
