Optimizing Export Cable Routing Using GIS Environmental Heat Maps: Case Study in Carolina Long BayJune 20, 2024 | 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. EDT

A key challenge associated with offshore wind is optimal routing and installation of subsea power (export) cables, which transmit electricity from the main offshore wind energy area to a land-based station.

This webinar will present is a case study from the recently leased Carolina Long Bay offshore wind farm to identify optimal seabed cable routes and coastal landfalls by using a combination of publicly available data, coupled with standard environmental impact assessment methodologies and GIS-based modeling and heat maps.

Whale Mortalities & Offshore Wind in the News: Analyzing Community Perceptions in New EnglandJuly 18, 2024 | 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. EDT

Coastal communities play a vital role in the success of offshore wind development. Research suggests more should be done to account for each community’s varying needs and perceptions. Understanding these perceptions can help policymakers, regulators, and developers better address concerns, increase the effectiveness of community engagement, facilitate dialogue and interaction, and be more inclusive. This webinar presentation will review the results of 35 community interviews in East Hampton, NY, New London, CT, Narragansett, RI, New Bedford, MA, and Martha’s Vineyard, MA, carried out in 2022. The interviews reveal themes of need for recognition, inclusivity, transparency, trust, and fairness.

Technical Evaluation Of Floating Offshore Wind Plants And Installation Operations August 15, 2024 | 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. EDT

Offshore wind energy is witnessing remarkable growth, driven by the global shift towards sustainable and renewable energy sources. A pivotal innovation in this domain is floating offshore wind technology, which represents a transformative opportunity in harnessing wind energy from deep waters. Considering regional commitments to lower carbon emissions in energy generation, the accessibility of deep-water zones, rich in offshore wind resources, becomes increasingly critical. This webinar will share an overview of how floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) developments present intricate challenges encompassing design, installation, and operational logistics.
